A devastating earthquake with a magnitude of 6.4 struck Nepal's Jajarkot district, claiming the lives of at least 128 people and leaving dozens injured. The quake, which hit at 11:47 p.m. local time on Friday, caused widespread destruction, with houses collapsing and buildings shaking as far as New Delhi, India.

Nepal's National Seismological Centre reported the earthquake, while other institutions, including the German Research Centre for Geosciences and the U.S. Geological Survey, provided slightly varying measurements. The quake marks the deadliest incident since 2015 when Nepal experienced two devastating earthquakes that claimed around 9,000 lives and caused extensive damage.

The affected region is grappling with collapsed houses and cracked buildings, leaving residents terrified. Many spent the night outdoors due to aftershocks and fear of further structural damage. Search and rescue teams are facing challenges in reaching the affected areas due to landslides triggered by the earthquake, blocking crucial roads.

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal swiftly responded, deploying a 16-member army medical team to oversee search, rescue, and relief efforts. Expressing deep sorrow at the loss of lives and property, he ordered security agencies to launch immediate rescue operations.

Local media footage revealed the extent of the disaster, showing multi-storied brick houses with crumbled facades and terrified residents evacuating buildings. Authorities and emergency responders are working tirelessly to assess the damage, provide relief, and ensure the safety of the affected population.
