Women Power: Female voters outnumber men in all 5 Assam Lok Sabha election

In the first phase of the Lok Sabha polls in Assam, women have emerged as a significant force, outnumbering male voters across all five constituencies. Their proactive participation was evident as they queued up before polling stations from the early hours of the morning, demonstrating a strong commitment to exercising their franchise. With a total of 43,64,859 women voters compared to 42,82,887 men, women have demonstrated their pivotal role in shaping the electoral landscape of the state.

Despite the significant presence of women voters, the representation of women candidates remains relatively low, comprising only 11.4% of the total contestants. Out of the 35 candidates in the fray, only four are women, highlighting the ongoing disparity in political representation. Nevertheless, candidates like Roselina Tirkey and Diluwara Begum Chowdhury, along with Rinku Roy, are actively contesting from constituencies like Kaziranga and Sonitpur, underscoring the determination of women to engage in the political process and vie for leadership positions.

As the elections progress, the turnout and enthusiasm of women voters serve as a reminder of their increasing influence in shaping the political landscape. With their substantial numerical strength and active participation, women are poised to play a crucial role in determining the outcome of the elections, reflecting a growing trend towards greater inclusivity and representation in the democratic process.
