Allegations of impropriety against Dr. Himabrata Das, a psychiatrist at Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH), have ignited a storm on social media platforms. Victims have shared screenshots on public platforms, revealing a disturbing pattern of conduct by Dr. Das. The accusations depict instances where he commented on the appearance of young women, objectified them, and attempted to initiate relationships. Those who rebuffed his advances were met with derogatory remarks about their education level. The allegations, spanning a significant period, paint a grim picture of persistent harassment.
One victim, aged 19, recounted her unsettling encounter with Dr. Das, echoing the sentiments of numerous others. She revealed, "Not just texts, he has been calling us on messenger too, and then he tells us life has been difficult since his divorce, and so we need to understand his situation."
